Japan’s top horse races take place in the season of spring and autumn. Japan’s most famous race is the Grade 1 Japan Cup, which is run over a distance of 2400m. Grass races take place every November at Tokyo Racecourse for a prize money of ¥530 million which is currently the richest turf race in the world. Other important races are the February Stakes, Takamatsunomiya Kinen, Yasuda Kinen, Takarazuka Kinen, Arima Kinen, and the Tenno Sho races which are held in the season of spring and fall. The Satsuki Sho, Tokyo Yushun and Kikuka Sho are the races which combine together to form the Japanese Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing.

Japan’s most prestigious jump race is the Nakayama Grand Jump, which takes place in April every year at Nakayama Racecourse. Like other race courses, Nakayama racecourse is not a straight one, instead in has twisted paths. Total length of this racecourse is 4250 m. The total amount of prize money distributed in the race is ¥170 million.
